A Q&A with They Might Be Giants superfan Luke Edwards

1. What do you like so much about TMBG?
I enjoy the fact that their music is both creative and original. They have hundreds of songs and not a single one sounds the same as another. Even their "depressing" songs, like "Hopeless Bleak Despair" and "4 of 2" are upbeat and cheery. You simply can not be sad while listening to TMBG.

2. Favorite album?
That's a tough one, but I would have to say Apollo 18.
With songs like "Narrow your eyes", "Fingertips" and "Mammal"...you can't go wrong, followed closely by John Henry.

3. Favorite song?
This is like asking which parent I love more...
I'd have to say "She's an Angel".

4. What would you do if you met them?
I actually met Flansburgh the first time I saw them in RI. He signed my shirt and I was on Cloud 9. I have yet to meet Linnell, but I'm hoping.

5. Weirdest TMBG item you own?
I have a TMBG bumper sticker that I am saving for my first car. I could order as many as I wanted for $1.99 each, but I bought this one specifically with my first car in mind.
I also have the skull mousepad.

6. Would you ever get a TMBG tattoo?
I've actually been planning on it. I just want to come up with the perfect one.

7. How many times have you seen them live?
4 1/2. The 1/2 was a free show in Central Park. When we got there, the seating was full, so we sat in the park and listened to them play. It was still amazing.

8. Have TMBG ever appeared in any of your dreams?
Actually yes. I had a dream that John and John were playing a live show in my living room for my friends and I, and they let me sing Dr. Worm with them.

9. A terrible disaster occurs and you can only save one of the two Johns, who do you choose?
That is not fair...
I would have to say Linnell though. I have yet to meet him.

10. Would you listen to a TMBG tribute album?
Of course I would!

11. How many people have you introduced to TMBG?
Everyone I become friends with eventually listens to them with me. I have only had ONE friend not like them.

12. Your favorite line in a TMBG song?
"Sad, sad, sad, sad, why must I be sad? With rows of dandelions growing all around me, why must I be sad?"

13. Could you date or marry somebody who does not like TMBG?
Love is more than just liking your partner's favorite band. Everyone has different tastes...but it would help greatly if they had the same love of TMBG as I do. I've always said "Only a TMBG fan can truly understand a TMBG fan."
